DESCRIPTION:The Weeks of the German Language 2024 will open with a concert with German language songs\, accompanied by prose and poetry. Two exceptional lyrical voices\, soprano Mariza Anastasiades and tenor Stelios Chatziktoris\, with pianist Zbynek Maruska and guitarist Dimitris Polyviou\, come together on stage for a unique performance. \nThe programme features iconic art songs by Schumann\, Schubert and Mendelssohn set to poetry by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe\, Friedrich von Schiller\, Friedrich Müller\, Heinrich Heine\, and other German-speaking poets\, whose words illuminated the aesthetic direction of 19th-century Romantic music and beyond.\nThe vocal sections are enriched by the explosive\, idiomatically romantic piano works of Swiss composer Joachim Raff\, as well as by two virtuosic fantasies for solo guitar by German composer David Kellner. \nThe overall programme explores the timeless relationship between language and voice in an impressive sonic manner\, offering the audience a unique experience of enjoyment. \nReservation required: ku-10@niko.diplo.de \nWith the kind support of the Charles Haimoff Foundation
