SUMMARY:Dialogues with Kafka
DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of the Weeks of the German Language 2024 and the accompanying programme of the exhibition Komplett Kafka\, the Goethe-Institut Cyprus warmly invites you to a book presentation by Dr. Panayiotis Thoma\, along with engaging talks about “The Metamorphosis”\, one of Franz Kafka’s best-known works. \nIn his book\, An unattainable Resurrection. An exegesis of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis\, Dr. Panayiotis Thoma explores the various implications of Kafka’s symbolic novel from a theological\, anthropological and aesthetic point of view. \nDr. Panayiotis Stavrinidis\, Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Cyprus\, Dr. Eva Polyviou\, philologist and president of KELOPOS\, and renowned poet Kyriakos Charalambides will give presentations on the study An unattainable Resurrection. An exegesis of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis. by Dr. Panayiotis Thoma\, published in Greek by Armos Publications (2024)\, on Kafka’s seminal work\, “The Metamorphosis”. \nThe event will also feature video clips of some of the new musical compositions inspired by Kafka’s literary legacy\, which are included in the series of songs under the title “Dialogues with Kafka”. The lyrics of these compositions are Panayiotis Thoma’s own creation\, while the music was composed by Professor Chrysostomos Stamoulis of Aristotle University and the Cypriot composer Mr. Georgios Kalogirou. \nThe author will briefly address the audience and sign copies of his book for attendees. \nLanguage: Greek \nPanayiotis Thoma\nBorn in 1981\, in Larnaca\, Panayiotis studied at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and later at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology\, Boston. In 2010 he was awarded a Ph.D from the department of Theology AUTH. His first monograph: “Time-making place […] in the Works of Nikos G. Pentzikis and Wendell Berry” was published by Armos in 2017\, and a second book: “Penetrating the doubts. Studies on the poetry of Kiki Dimoula” was published by Armos in 2020. He has published articles and studies in Greek and English publications. He taught: World Religions at the English School\, Nicosia (2012-2022); Introduction to Religious Studies at Frederick University (2013-2018) as well as the postgraduate seminar Theology & Culture at the University of Cyprus (2015-2017). As of 2018 he became a registered educator of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute. Panayiotis has published books for children\, while his lyrics have been put to music and released by G. Kalogirou and Ch. Stamoulis.
