SUMMARY:Being Youth in Times of Crises
DESCRIPTION:Most parts of the world have been facing three consecutive crises since 2008 affecting the lives of billions. Starting with the economic and financial crises of 2008\, followed by the 2019\, COVID-19 pandemic\, the general population but more specifically young people have been affected the most. Young people were not only affected by the pandemic when it comes to their health status\, but also youth unemployment has risen\, their mental health was impacted\, their education and rights were threatened. Against these challenges\, the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 resulted in global political\, military and economic hardships that again massively and negatively affect the lives of people around the globe. In a time of crisis and uncertainty like the present\, youth voices and actions can all too easily be pushed aside. Within the specific context of Cyprus\, an island that remains divided until today\, the Turkish Cypriot community face additional hardship caused by a deteriorating economic situation in the north of the island and the devaluation of the Turkish Lira. \nThis event will bring the voices of young people from both communities of Cyprus to the table\, and it will give them the space to express their challenges\, views and thoughts for the future. \nPanelists:  \n\nMaria Kola\, President of the Cyprus Youth Council\nChristiana Xenofontos\, Board Member of the European Youth Forum\nAli Furkan Cetiner\, President of Lefkoşa Gençlik Derneği\nMustafa Özbilgehan\, President of Mağusa Gençlik Birliği\n\nThe discussion will be moderated by Antonis Kourras\, Cyprus Citizens’ Representative on the Conference on the Future of Europe  \nFor participation fill the form: https://forms.gle/aWtjom8j3B1mmnJa9

SUMMARY:“Travel and Travellers in the Eastern Mediterranean in the 15th century”
DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of the exhibition “The Grünenberg experience: a medieval view of Cyprus”\, |\nDr. Annika Stello\, historian and Special Collections curator at the Baden State Library\, will be giving a lecture on “Travel and Travellers in the Eastern Mediterranean in the 15th century”. \nKonrad Grünenberg\, a citizen of Constance\, made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1486. His journey took him from Venice along the eastern Adriatic coast\, around Greece and via Crete\, Rhodes and Cyprus\, to Palestine – as was customary in his time. Thus\, he was part of the very busy sea traffic between Western Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean\, where the Italian Maritime Republics of Genoa and Venice played a major role throughout the latter Middle Ages. The lecture traces the general sea voyage conditions of the time\, the main route(s) from Western Europe to the Middle East\, and the surrounding political and social conditions of the late 15th century\, a time when the Eastern Mediterranean was perhaps even more than today a space for encounter and exchange between different cultures. \nLanguage: English \nWith the kind support of the Nicosia Municipality.

SUMMARY:The Grünenberg experience: a medieval view of Cyprus
DESCRIPTION:The Centre of Visual Arts and Research is very proud to announce the upcoming exhibition “The Grünenberg experience: a medieval view of Cyprus” on the German fifteenth-century traveller Konrad Grünenberg (1415-1494) who visited Cyprus in 1486. \nIn collaboration with the Baden State Library in Karlsruhe\, and with the sponsorship of the German Embassy and support from the Gotha Research Centre of the University of Erfurt\, the CVAR will host some of the rarest and earliest illustrations of Cyprus contained in the two manuscript versions of Konrad Grünenberg’s journals: the codex that kept in the Baden State Library\, most probably the author’s own copy of his journal\, and the Gotha Research Center codex of the University of Erfurt\, which is believed to be a copy that was presented by the author to a dignitary. \nThe exhibition will run from 4 to 17 November 2021\, at the CVAR. Opening hours of the exhibition: 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nOn Monday 8 November\, the manuscript curator of the Baden State Library Dr Annika Stello will give a lecture on “Travel and Travellers in the Eastern Mediterranean in the 15th century” at the Melina Merkouri Municipal Hall at 7.00 p.m.

SUMMARY:Lara
DESCRIPTION:Lara’s day seems to start like any other — with a cup of tea and a cigarette. Still\, today is a very special day for two reasons: Not only is it her 60th birthday\, but for the first time\, her son Victor is also giving a grand solo performance of piano music he composed himself. However\, unlike Viktor‘s father Paul and his new girlfriend\, Lara is not invited. Nevertheless\, Lara has her own plans for the day. She buys the last tickets for the show and distributes them according to her very idiosyncratic ways. In any case\, the events of the day unfold in a completely unexpected manner. \nCorinna Harfouch is one of Germany’s most respected actresses. Whether on the movie screen\, television\, or the theater stage\, for over 30 years she has captivated audiences with her versatility\, depth\, and passion. She has been honored multiple times for her superlative performances. \nJan-Ole Gerster – 2019 – 98’ – drama\nLanguage: German with Greek subtitles
