SUMMARY:“MOMO” – Book Club Workshop
DESCRIPTION:“The time is the life itself; the place of life is in the heart.” \nThe Turkish Cypriot German Cultural Association organises a book club on Michel Ende’s fantastic novel “MOMO”\, for children and young people between the ages of 12 and 18. The book received the German Youth Literature Award\, was adapted to cinema numerous times as well as translated into more than forty languages and sold over 7 million copies worldwide. \nMOMO is a fairy tale for both children and adults\, full of imagination and fantasy. The book tells the story of a girl named Momo who lives alone in the theater ruins of a big city. She has nothing except for the things\, she finds around or the gifts\, she receives from others. However\, she has an extraordinary talent: Momo is a great listener and has plenty of time for that. One day\, the “smoke men” appear and make plan to steal the people’s time. The only person who can stop them is Momo – will she be able to defeat them alone? \nIn two sessions\, literature teacher Dilgül Sakallı\, will introduce you to German literature on children and youth and share with you information about the author Michael Ende. Based on the book\, you will talk about topics like friendships and listening to each other. \nThe book will be given as a gift to you. The event will take place in Turkish. Number of participants is limited to 15 people – secure your spot and register at ku-100@niko.diplo.de until 31st October. \n1. DESCRIPTION:“Anyone may know what I know\, but my heart is mine alone.” \nThe Turkish Cypriot German Cultural Association organises a book club for adults\, on the novel “The Sorrows of Young Werther”\, written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe\, one of the most prominent authors of German literature. \nIn two engaging sessions\, literature teacher Dilgül Sakalli will introduce you the author as well as to the German literature and explore with you the content of the book. “The Sorrows of Young Werther” is based on Goethe’s life at the age of twenty-five and presents in a magnificent style the most meaningful definitions of a “hopeless love” and its consequences. Join us for this activity where you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts on the topics of life\, love\, fear\, pain and emotions. \n1. Session 1 / 5th November: 14:00-15:00 introduction into German literature and author\n2. SUMMARY:Mediating between two cultures
DESCRIPTION:A look into the works by literary translator Theo Votsos. \n  \nTheo (Theodoros) Votsos is a guest speaker at the conferene of this year’s Limassol Book Fair. \nWithin the framework of the Weeks of the German language\, the Goethe-Institut Zypern has invited Theo Votsos to Nicosia. The event at ARTos House focuses on the translator Theo Votsos and his decades of work as a language mediator between Greek- and German-language literature. \nThe Cypriot author Constantia Soteriou\, recently awarded with the national book prize for her latest novel\, is talking with Theo Votsos\, among other things\, about his favourite projects and the collaboration between authors and translators. The translator will give an insight into his work with the help of concrete text examples. \n  \nShort bio Theo Votsos \nTheo Votsos\, born in Stuttgart in 1966 as the son of Greek migrant workers\, works as a freelance translator of Greek and German literature. He also works as a film and literature editor for various print and online media. He studied political science\, sociology and philosophy in Konstanz and Tübingen. \n  \nTheo Votsos translates the following authors: \nGreek-German: among others Giannis Ritsos\, Stratis Myrivilis\, Vasilis Papas\, Eleni Varopoulou \nGerman-Greek: among others Gottfried Keller\, Robert Walser\, Adolf Muschg\, Eugen Ruge\, Lucy Fricke \n
