SUMMARY:A Whole Life
DESCRIPTION:A Whole Life\, based on the bestselling novel by Robert Seethaler\, follows Andreas Egger\, a humble labourer who\, in his twilight years\, reflects on his life spent in his isolated home-valley. As he navigates through the joys and hardships of life\, the film captures the profound transformation of his serene farming community.\nSet against the breath-taking backdrop of the Austrian Alps\, the film explores themes of nature\, progress\, and the emotional costs of change\, through stunning cinematography. SUMMARY:Alma and Oskar
DESCRIPTION:The film follows the amour fou between the Grande Madame of Vienna’s cultural society\, Alma Mahler\, and the young expressionist artist Oskar Kokoschka. Alma allows herself to be painted by the unknown artist\, seduces him and instructs the inexperienced young man in the arts of eroticism. He is one of many conquests to her\, but she is to him his first great love. He makes her his muse; she becomes his source of inspiration.  He cannot paint without her\, he says. But she refuses to be there for him alone\, because she too is striving for recognition in the society of Vienna. \n  \nThe Embassy of Austria has the pleasure to screen a drama directed by Dieter Berner. In 1912\, the widowed Alma Mahler\, Grand Dame of Viennese society\, falls for the „Enfant Terrible „of Vienna‘s art scene\, Oskar Kokoschka. But\, as their passion grows\, it threatens to destroy the world they have built for themselves\, and to take them both down with it. \n  \nDirector: Dieter Berner – 2022 – 88‘ \nGenre: Drama \nA few words from the Director: Although Alma and Oskar are “historical” figures\, the audience should encounter them as if they were of the “here and now”. Their conflicts are modern\, and we do not need nostalgic evocations of the past to understand them. \nCast: Emily Cox\, Valentin Postlmayr\, Anton von Lucke \n  \nRating: 16+ \nLanguage: German with English subtitles \nIn cooperation with the Friends of Cinema Society \n

SUMMARY:Welcome to Siegheilkirchen (aka Snotty Boy)
DESCRIPTION:The first Austrian feature-length animation film\, inspired by characters created by late Austrian caricaturist Manfred Deix. \nThe ultra-Catholic provincial village of Siegheilkirchen in the 1960s\, somewhere in the hinterland of Austria: The innkeeper’s son\, known only as “Rotzbub / Snotty Boy\,” resents the narrow-minded confines of his home village and passes the time by drawing nude pictures of the butcher’s assistant. The apparently artistically gifted snotty boy causes a stir in the bigoted and old-fashioned village community with his caricatures. Based on the life of Manfred Deix\, the animated film gives an entertaining insight into the young years of the Austrian Republic\, peppered with biting humor. \nThis film screening is organized in cooperation with the Friends of Cinema Society. \n  \nView trailer here. \n  \nAge restriction 18+ years \n  \n15 November 2021 – 20:00 – Pantheon Cinema\, Nicosia \n2021 – Austria – Marcus H.
