Berlin Wall x Street Art – art and dialogue in divided capitals

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall the German Embassy invites you to a special event exploring the connection between art, history, and community with Mrs. Anna von Arnim-Rosenthal, Director of the East Side Gallery in Berlin.
The East Side Gallery is an outdoor art gallery in Berlin, built on a preserved section of the Berlin Wall. Immediately after the fall of the Berlin Wall, artists transformed the former wall into a 1.3- kilometre-long artwork. With over 100 graffiti by artists from around the world, the gallery reflects the themes of hope and reconciliation and is a reminder of the division of Germany. Mrs. Anna von Arnim-Rosenthal shares how the Berlin wall transformed from a symbol ofthe Cod War to a symbol of connection, dialogue and reunification.
In a second part, we shift the focus on the local perspective. Together with well-known street artist Twenty Three we will discuss on the topics of walls and explore the theme of separation and art.

– Mrs. Anna von Arnim-Rosenthal, Director East Side Gallery Berlin
