Two to One.

Comedy with Sandra Hüller.
| The Goethe-Institut Cyprus warmly invites you to the screening of TWO TO ONE (2024) on the 4th November 2026. Natja Brunckhorn’s film is about a group of friends, who with the help of their neighbourhood try to stop capitalism. The filmmaker was inspired by true events happening around the time of the German reunification:
As part of the currency union, millions of GDR-Marks were covertly stored underground in Halberstadt, in total close to 400 tons worth of bills. Today we know with certainty that money was taken from the vaults, but which sum was stolen in total remains unknown. Based on this true story Natja Brunckhorst developed her film – set in the summer of 1990 in Halberstadt. Maren (Sandra Hüller), Robert (Max Riemelt) und Volker (Ronald Zehrfeld) grew up together and are close friends. They find the secret stash of GDR-Marks by accident and decide to stuff their backpacks with money. Together with their neighbours they come up with a clever system to trick West-Germans into exchanging the (now worthless) currency with valuable goods. The summer promises not only to become an exciting adventure for the three friends, but also a defining turning point in their lives. Two to One is a love- and friendship-comedy about money and justice. And an homage to a time in which everything seemed possible. The film is shown as part of the Weeks of the German Language. This initiative, organized by the embassies of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, together with the Goethe-Institut Cyprus and in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, annually hosts a variety of activities and events focusing on the German language and the cultures of the participating countries. We would also like to extend our special thanks to the Friends of Cinema Society for supporting this film screening. Trailer: https://youtu.be/Y0Fs1FLqAsA?si=xz-BB05t_Up1kF6-
