This year, the German Embassy is screening a comedy by Simon Verhoeven that humorously explores coming of age, the world of theatre and an eccentric family life.

At the age of 20, Joachim is unexpectedly accepted into the prestigious acting school in Munich and moves into the grand villa of his quirky grandparents, Inge and Hermann. Caught between the demanding acting training and his grandparents’ alcohol-fueled rituals, Joachim tries to find his place in the world—without knowing what role he is actually meant to play in it.

At the 2026 German Film Awards, the film won three prizes: the Film Award in Bronze for Beast Feature Film, as well as Best Actress for Senta Berger and Best Supporting Actor for Michael Witterborn.
